CAFF Regional Flyway Coordinator based in Wilhelmshaven

CWSS is pleased to welcome Sergio Rejado Albaina to the CWSS premises! As Regional Flyway Coordinator for Conservation of Arctic Flora and Fauna (CAFF), the biodiversity working group of the Arctic Council, Sergio will work out of Wilhelmshaven to promote the conservation of migratory birds of the African-Eurasian Flyway in the context of the Arctic Migratory Birds Initiative (AMBI), which is intended to improve the status and secure the long-term sustainability of declining Arctic breeding migratory bird populations. The co-location of this important CAFF function with CWSS testifies to the significant role of the Trilateral Wadden Sea Cooperation (TWSC) and CWSS in the context of AMBI. It also constitutes the first physical presence of a partner organization at the new Partnership Hub being developed as part of the Wadden Sea World Heritage Partnership Center in Wilhelmshaven. The Center will accommodate, as a complementary set of institutional structures, the Common Wadden Sea Secretariat and the Partnership Hub as a networking unit intended to work with envisaged partner organisations both at the Hub itself and in networks. A network partner, WWF Germany, is already cooperating with the TWSC in the framework of the International Wadden Sea School (IWSS). Cooperation between entities comprising the Hub and the TWSC is based on Agreements of Cooperation concluded between CWSS and the respective partners.
