Anniversary Bike Tour 2019
The Anniversary Bike Tour will be the highlight of the 10th anniversary celebrations. Two cyclist groups will start on 18 June in Ho Bugt, Denmark, and on 19 June on Vlieland, Netherlands.
2019 marks the 10th anniversary of the Wadden Sea's inscription as a World Heritage site. To celebrate this special year, the Wadden Sea community is setting up an anniversary programme with various regional and local events and activites for you as Wadden Sea resident or visitor to join in. The events can be explored below and will be updated throughout the year. The motto is heavily intertwined with the theme of sustainability. We want to not only celebrate the nature heritage we enjoy today, but also want to protect this fragile and unique place for our future, the generations to come. Our anniversary events and activities by experiencing it in sustainable ways.
The Anniversary Bike Tour will be the highlight of the 10th anniversary celebrations. Two cyclist groups will start on 18 June in Ho Bugt, Denmark, and on 19 June on Vlieland, Netherlands. En route, the cyclists will stop at local celebrations, thereby drawing a golden thread to unite all Wadden Sea regions. Our tour crosses the finish line on 30 June in Wilhelmshaven. At the Südstrandpromenade at the edge of Jade Bay the Wadden Sea World Heritage Experience Festival, open from 10 to 18.00, marks the end of the tour. The participation in a daily stage of the bike tour is free-of-charge. However, there may be costs charged for additional activities at the day stops. Participation is at your own risk. Please bring a safe bicycle. The road traffic regulations apply. Follow the instructions of the support team. By participating, you agree to the use of photos and videos taken during the tour.
The Anniversary Bike Tour and the final event are sponsored by the Danish Ministry for Environment and Food, the Dutch Ministry for Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality, the German Federal Ministry for Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety, as well as the Lower Saxon Ministry for Environment, Energy, Building, and Climate Protection and the European Union in the framework of the Interreg project PROWAD LINK.
