Christine Wijshake and Marre Walter appointed Directors of the Dutch Wadden Sea Management Authority

Christine Wijshake and Dr Marre Walter were appointed as Board and Management Director, respectively, of the new Dutch Wadden Sea Management Authority at the Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality and will take up office on 1 March 2020.

Wijshake is the owner of Gewoon Wijs (since 2007) – an agency for interim management and coaching, at which Wijshake has led many projects and supported organizations. Until 1 January 2020 she served as project leader in the partnership "Natuer mei de Mienskip" in the province of Fryslân. Wijshake: “I look forward to working with Marre and all parties involved in the Wadden Sea to further improve and strengthen management coherence.”

Since 2012, Walter has been a co-owner of Veranderpartners B.V. – an agency for interim management, organizational advice and coaching, at which Walter supervised various projects. She also served as acting director of the Wadden Fund until 1 January 2020. Walter: “Together with Christine, I want to focus on joining the forces of all parties involved to strengthen the Wadden Sea World Heritage together.”

The Wadden Sea Management Authority – first announced in the coalition agreement “Trust in the future” – was set up by the Ministers of LNV and IenW together with the provinces of Noord-Holland, Fryslân and Groningen. They are also the employers of the two directors. The aim of the Management Authority is to achieve a more coherent and coordinated management of the Dutch part of the Wadden Sea World Heritage in the area of nature, fish and water management. To this end, the commitment is to strengthen the cooperation between all parties involved. An integral management plan will be drawn up and implemented together with the managers.

The Wadden Sea Management Authority is part of the new governance with regard to the policy and management of the Wadden Sea area. The directors will lead a compact unit based in Leeuwarden.
